PUCP’s Spanish Language Program for Foreign Students (PREX) is designed to meet foreign students’ communicative needs in social and academic contexts. In our classes, special care is placed in striking the necessary balance between fluency development and grammar accuracy. Our class materials are specially elaborated and adapted to Peruvian reality. Furthermore, students can benefit both from our available resources and pleasant campus atmosphere at PUCP.

The Spanish Language Program for Foreign Students has highly qualified professionals in Lingüistics, Literature, and Second Language Teaching, who have experience in accompanying students in their language learning.

Flor Mallqui is a Bachelor of Education, with a specialty in Language and Literature from UNMSM, and a Master in Hispanic-American Literature from PUCP. She is a professor of Spanish with four years of experience in teaching and writing in Spanish as a foreign language. Creative and ingenious in the coordination and implementation of lesson plans in Spanish and competence in the classroom management, as well as in the use of modern teaching techniques. He has in-depth knowledge of creating an interactive environment for students in order to encourage learning. Flor is currently holding the position of Coordinator of the Spanish Language Program for Foreign Students at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP)

Jaime Peña has a M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Oregon (UO), having obtained his B.A. from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). Jaime has been in charged of several linguistic courses at UO and PUCP at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, he has ample experience teaching Spanish as a second language, research methods and writing composition. His research interests focus around morphosyntax, cognitive semantics, typology and second language teaching. He has spent long periods doing fieldwork research in several communities of the Peruvian Amazon. Dr. Peña has published and participated in different academic local and international venues.

Claudia Almeida Goshi received her MA in Linguistics at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). She was the best student in Linguistics at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, where she received her BA. She got the Aristóteles scholarship for six months for being one of the best students in graduate programs at PUCP. Since 2015, Claudia has been working as an instructor and teaching assistant of Spanish for foreign students at PUCP. Her research interests are focused on critical analysis of media discourse, Alberto Fujimori’s government and gender studies.

Enrique Bruce Marticorena (Lima, 1963) has a PhD in Hispanics Literatures from the Graduate Center of CUNY. He has published several articles and essays on literary and cultural subjects. He has published fiction and poetry books and a recent study on Peruvian poet César Vallejo (Lima, 2014). He runs a blog Ándando de paso' in Lamula.pe

Diego Marquez Arnao has a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Literature from PUCP. He was a Spanish language assistant at Åbo Akademi in Finland (2011-2012). Since 2013, he has been working at PUCP as a teaching assistant in courses related to academic writing and linguistics (Language and Society, General Theory of Language and Language Structure). Diego is a master’s student in Linguistics with a specialization in Andean Studies. His research interests are focused on the variation and history of language.

Maricielo Guillen Castañeda has a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). She has taken a specialized program in “Spanish Language teaching as a foreign language” at Universidad Ricardo Palma and a “Diplomature in Methodological Principles for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Children and Teenagers” at PUCP. She is an English teacher at Idiomas Católica, area in which she has three years of experience, and teaching assistant in writing courses at undergraduate levels. Currently, Maricielo is taking a postgraduate diploma in “Spanish Language teaching to speakers of other languages” at PUCP, and her interests are related to second language acquisition and teaching.

Claudia Duharte holds a degree in Hispanic Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Currently, she is studying a master's degree in Cultural Management at the Universidad de Piura. She has been teaching, since 2015, at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, as a part time teacher, and, as a teaching assitant, since 2014, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. The courses that she has taught are related to academic writting, Spanish language grammar and Literature. Also, she works in developing projects in the Book and Reading Directorate of the Ministry of Culture that focus, specifically, on the promotion of reading and access to book.

Kris A. Cárdenas Bravo received her M.A in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language at the Universidad de Cantabria –Spain, and her B.A. in Education with major in Spanish and Literature at the Universidad San Antonio Abad del Cusco-Peru. She worked at Beijing International Study University – China (BISU) as a foreign expert in the Spanish and Portuguese Department. Additionally, she has a lot of experience teaching Spanish and Latin American Literature for foreign people in different universities and institutions in Peru.

Carolina Cáceres holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with Major in Language and Literature, by UNSAAC, and in Psychology from Universidad Andina del Cusco. She has taken a specialized Program in Spanish Language teaching to speakers of other languages at PUCP. Carolina has worked as a Spanish teacher since 2001 in schools and universities in Peru, where she has taught all levels of Spanish as a second language. She has also taught Advanced Grammar and Composition, Written Communication, and Latin American culture. Carolina was a Spanish Language Assistant at Alma College, Michigan (2006-2007), and a Visiting Professor at Hebei Institute of Communication, China (2014-2015). Other professional experiences include academic and volunteer coordination in a Spanish language school. Carolina is currently writing her thesis in order to receive her Master’s degree in Higher Education.

Carmen Saucedo is Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies with over 20 years of experience teaching Spanish language, Latin American literature, and writing courses. She coordinated the Spanish Language Program for Foreign Students at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP) from 2013 to 2021. Other occupations included working as administrative staff at the Undergraduate School of Arts and Human Sciences at PUCP, supervising academic activities for undergraduate students, and student’s internationalization (PUCP 2016-2022). Other professional experiences include coordinating the Congreso Internacional Perú Transatlántico in 2014, and the “I Encuentro de Enseñanza del Español como Lengua Extranjera: Balances y posibilidades de la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera en el Perú” in 2019.
