Sumilla del curso
The COVID-19 global pandemic, and other major disruptions, has demonstrated a serious need for a richer understanding and a better practical application of the intersection of business strategy, sustainability, and community resilience. This can be seen from a practitioner lens and a scholarly lens as attention on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community resilience has increased significantly in the past decade. Thus, it is apparent that there is a need to build a cohort of students (and eventually managers and CEOs) that have a deep understanding of resilience, sustainability, and the vital role that domestic and multinational firms play. The purpose of this course is to understand the nexus between sustainability and resilience and to analyze how different types of institutional disruptions impact firm-level strategy. The main objective of the course is for students to understand why sustainability and resilience is important and how firms can build it. By focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic and other major institutional disruptions, students will gain practical and experiential knowledge on how to apply theories of resilience to firm strategy across different country contexts.

Sumilla del curso
The course will provide a holistic picture of current social and ecological challenges as well as their implications for business sectors in the future. Through analyzing developments and trends as well as through creative methods (e.g., solarpunk role play and futures literacy approaches), students will develop future scenarios for business sectors and explore possible and desirable futures. The teaching format aims to sensitize students towards the importance of clear visions for possible futures and the creation of compelling narratives for sustainable business development through the exploration of these future scenarios and visions. Through analysis of retropolation and backcasting tools, students will then develop strategic implementation pathways for the respective business sectors.
